Federer on Davis Cup Future

Roger Federer has not closed the curtain on his Davis Cup career.

But don't expect to see the 19-time Grand Slam champion suit up for Switzerland.

More: Noah Will Return as French Davis Cup Captain

Asked if he will play Davis Cup, which ITF rules require in order to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Federer said though he has not officially retired from Davis Cup, it’s "highly unlikely" he will play Davis Cup again.

"I haven't officially retired from the Davis Cup, so not because of that reason," said Federer, who partnered Stan Wawrinka to lead Switzerland to its first Davis Cup championship in 2014. "It's just because it's always highly unlikely that I'll play at this stage of my career.

"You know, I haven't set Tokyo Olympics as a goal either. It hurt not being in Rio, but I was okay without it, too. I was flag bearer twice. I won gold. I won silver. I feel like I achieved a lot of great things at the Olympics. I'm not thinking that far ahead."
