The current world No. 256 won the title of the Audi Melbourne Pro Tennis Classic in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla to claim the USTA's wild card, which combines results from three pro circuit events.
Townsend defeated Annet Kontaveit, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 to reach the final today, which clinched the spot. To top it off, Townsend took down Yulia Putintseva for the title in the final, 6-1, 6-1.
Townsend, a former top-ranked junior who won the 2012 Australian Open girls singles title, became the first American woman to hold the No. 1 year-end junior ranking in in 30 years in 2012.
The American has now won back-to-back titles, having also taken the Charlottesville title last week.
