Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Sometimes the best memory is a selective memory. Check out how Kei Nishikori handles this question about one of his two career wins over Andy Murray, which came at the 2016 U.S. Open.

“Actually I’m really bad with the memories,” Nishikori said. “I don’t even know if I won or if I lost.”

When told the result he says. “I won? Okay.”

Nishikori and Murray are completely different. The Scotsman would have known his first and second serve percentages from that match, where he hit the majority of his forehands and how many break points he converted.

Nishikori, meanwhile, is a different animal.

Either that or he has a very clever method of avoiding questions that could give his opponent clues about his intentions ahead of a big match.
