The Swiss Maestro normally travels the world with his racquet bag in hand, but this weekend 17-time major champion Roger Federer was in Africa armed with smiles and goodwill. And a few bananas.

Federer was in Malawi, a country in southeast Africa (bordered by Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique), to start a children’s program funded by his charity foundation.

“I have always thought children are tomorrow’s future and I really enjoy supporting them and giving them an opportunity to be able to go to school,” Federer said, according to AFP. “I think it’s really important that every child should have this opportunity, so I am trying to help as much as I can.”
