Barbora Strycova outdueled Caroline Wozniacki, 7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-4, to advance to the Sydney International semifinals.

In a physically-punishing three hour, 20-minute grind played in searing heat, Strycova converted nine of 12 break points.

It’s the second time the 30-year-old Czech has sent Wozniacki packing in Sydney.

While the former world No. 1 lost the match, she won the unofficial title for revealing press conference responses.

Asked how she handles the heat, Wozniacki credited visualization: She pictured herself downing piña coladas on the beach.

“It was brutal out there. It was really hot,” Wozniacki says in the video above. “You just try to think like you’re on a beach drinking pina coladas. That’s basically your train of thought. You know that it’s the same for both. I was just trying to mentally keep cool, but it was really, really hot out there.”

The
piña colada panacea wasn’t Wozniacki’s only revelation.

In the post-match presser that followed Wozniacki’s 6-0, 7-5 round of 16 win over Yulia Putintseva, the 10th-seeded Dane voiced her displeasure with her opponent’s screams and behavior.

Wozniacki called the feisty Putintseva “pretty annoying” and took a parting shot bluntly stating the world No. 34 is “not as good as most of the top 100, but she gets under your skin.”

“She’s a pretty annoying opponent to play against, and she’ll scream and do anything just to put you off,” Wozniacki said of Putintseva. “But, you know, I managed to just keep cool and didn’t let her back in, really.”

Wozniacki’s suggested Putintseva’s confrontational style can be a weapon for the 5-foot-4 baseliner.

“I mean, she’s one of those players who, you know, tennis-wise is not as good as most of the top 100, but she gets under your skin and she just tries to fight out there and then that’s how she wins matches. She gets under your skin, you get annoyed, and you start missing a little bit and she will hit a few good shots, and all of a sudden, she’s back in it. That’s what she wins on.”

A few years ago, CoCo Vandeweghe and Putintseva feuded on court and on Twitter recounting this trash-talk exchange:
