Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Venus Williams will be in action on Saturday in Asheville, North Carolina, as the Americans begin their Fed Cup title defense. But the one-two Williams sisters punch will not be in effect, as Serena Williams will not play. In fact, we may not see the 23-time major champion at all this weekend if U.S. Captain Kathy Rinaldi sticks to her plan.

The draw for the weekend was held earlier today in Asheville, and Serena is only slated to play doubles with Lauren Davis. The American still has not played an official match since last year's Australian Open, and if the Americans clinch prior to a fifth rubber, her services likely will not be needed.

Even if she doesn’t play, the tie promises to be exciting, and it’s always good to see Serena working on that legendary serve and forehand.
