Murray, who reached the Australian Open final last month, made it clear during the event that he would have left the tournament early if Sears had gone into labor.
"My child is more important to me, and my wife is more important to me, than a tennis match,” said the World No. 2. “t’s a big change for me and my wife, but that's the current priority and I'll see after that. I have no idea how that will change things. I still love tennis."
While Murray and Sears were unavailable for comment, Murray’s grandmother Shirley Erskine, was delighted at the news.
"I don't have any details I just know that I've got a great granddaugher so that is just lovely.”
Murray paid tribute to his wife during the Australian Open trophy ceremony after losing to Novak Djokovic.
"You have been a legend the last two weeks, thank you so much for all of your support. I'll be on the next flight home."
Murray and Sears married last April in Dunblane, Scotland. This is the couple’s first child.
