Federer: Novak, Rafa Are US Open Favorites

Novak Djokovic attained a Masters milestone sweeping Roger Federer to become the first man to win all nine Masters 1000 championships.

Djokovic's win came a week after Rafael Nadal won his record-extending 33rd Masters title in Toronto. Federer says on form Nadal and Djokovic are the favorites to win this month's US Open.

Federer: ITF Doesn't Involve Players In Decisions

"I'm not the favorite; they are," Federer said after suffering his first loss in eight Cincinnati finals. "Rafa and Novak, in my opinion. I'm happy that my level, you know, is there. I just need to figure out my game, get used to different balls. It's always beautiful when you play with different balls here and there."

Oddschecker lists Djokovic as an 11 to 4 favorite to win his third US Open title, followed by defending champion Nadal, Federer, Alexander Zverev and Juan Martin del Potro.

It's been a decade since Federer swept Andy Murray to win his fifth straight US Open title.

The 37-year-old Swiss has reached two Flushing Meadows finals in that span, bowing to Juan Martin del Potro in the 2009 final and losing to Djokovic in the 2015 title match.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion believes he can "do something special" in New York.

"I just gotta come up with a lot of energy, and then hopefully I also have a chance after 10 years to do something special again at the Open," Federer said. "I think it's going to be an interesting US Open.

"I don't know if it's going to be 16-seed for sure at the Australian Open, but it looks good. I still think this US Open draw, as well, is going to be quite entertaining, and I can't wait for the US Open to come around."
