Former World No.1 and five-time major champion Maria Sharapova will compete in the 2018 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose this summer, the tournament announced today.

“I am excited to return to the Bay Area for the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic,” Sharapova said in a statement. “I always enjoy playing in California. The region has tremendous tennis fans, and I can’t wait to see the tournament’s new venue in San Jose.”

Formerly known as the Bank of the West Classic, and played at Stanford, the tournament has a new lead sponsor and a new site on the campus of San Jose State University this season.

Sharapova will be joined by defending champion Madison Keys and finalist CoCo Vandeweghe in the tournament player field.
