Kristina Mladenovic knocked off two-time defending champion Angelique Kerber in second-round action at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, 6-2, 7-5.

Kerber’s nine-match winning streak at Stuttgart goes up in flames, as well as her chance of reclaiming the No.1 ranking from Serena Williams this week. Kerber drops to 17-10 on the season and 0-7 vs. the WTA’s Top 20.

Mladenovic saved 6 of 7 break points to improve to 1-3 against Kerber lifetime and set up a clash with Carla Suárez Navarro in the quarterfinals. Suárez Navarro defeated Elena Vesnina, 6-2, 6-4.

In other 2nd-round action on Thursday in Stuttgart, Karolina Pliskova edged CoCo Vandeweghe, 7-6(2), 6-4, and Laura Siegemund upset Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-4, 6-3. Second-seeded Pliskova and Siegemund will meet in the quarterfinals.

Anastasija Sevastova, who upset No.6-seeded Johanna Konta, will face No.4-seeded Simona Halep in the quarterfinals.
