Naomi Osaka is prioritizing rest over a quest for the Cincinnati Open title.
Former world No. 1 Osaka withdrew from this month’s Cincinnati Open citing fatigue after her run to the Toronto quarterfinals.
Osaka led No. 2 Elena Rybakina by a set and a break before the Australian Open champion rallied for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory in a match that spanned two hours, 33 minutes.

“I’m really sad to have to withdraw from Cincinnati this year due to fatigue,” Osaka said in a statement. “I love playing here and am looking forward to coming back and competing in Cincinnati next year.”
It marks the second straight year Osaka will skip Cincinnati. A year ago, Osaka reached the Montreal final losing to Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko before pulling out of Cincinnati.
